What is the difference between Type A and Type C chainsaw pants?

Type A and Type C chainsaw pants are defined under the European EN381-5 standard. Type A have front only protection while Type C have full 360 coverage around the leg. Climbers are required to wear Type C. The risk of cuts at the back of the leg is considered higher for tree climbers.

You may also see Category A and Category C chainsaw pants in Canada. Category C in Canada is similar to Type A in Europe. Category A has front protection and 360 calf protection.
